Lilias Cleland
Parents:  Alexander Cleland and Mary Houston
Note about parentage:  I have seen Archibald Cleland and Jean Stewart listed as her parents, but this would be impossible as the birth and christening for THAT Lilias was in December of 1798 and the marriage between Hugh and Lilias took place in 1801, with firstborn child in 1802.  On top of this is the fact, there is a Mary Houston Findlay in this group of children, which ties back to this Lilias's mother.
Born:  about 1785 Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland
Died 12 May 1835 Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland

James Grieve 1701 Margaret Grieg 1708

Note:  not convinced these records are right - unless James was christened a bit later than usual, he would only be 15 at time of his marriage and his bride only 8!

James Grieve
Christened 3 Nov 1701 Montrose, Angus, Scotland
Parents:  John Grieve and Elizabeth Brown
Note:  Parents names abbreviated to Jo. and Eliz. Surname spelled Greive in record
Married Margaret Grieg 24 May 1716 Montrose, Angus, Scotland
Note: his surname given as Griev, her name abbreviated Margt. in record

*(Robert?) Grieve
Christened 13 Nov 1720 St Cyrus, Kincardine, Scotland
Note: Not positive about this one.  Two reasons 1) The record had no given name for the child and the mother's name was extracted as Marjory in record. However, the mother's unusual surname as well as the father's name matched.  Montrose is close to St Cyrus. 2)  the next child is christened six months later - of course, Robert could have been born earlier and just christened at this time.  Need more investigation.
Married:  Isabel Bran 27 Jul 1742 St Cyrus, Kincardine, Scotland

James Grieve 1758 Helen Grant

This family group is an excellent example of how much confusion can arise when dates and sources are not verified.  The only verifiable date (so far) is son James' marriage to Janet.

James Grieve
Christened 15 Jan 1758 St Cyrus, Kincardine, Scotland
Parents: Robert Grieve and Isabel Bran
Married Helen Grant 22 Dec 1768 St Cyrus, Kincardine, Scotland
NOTE: This can't be the correct wedding date - he would be ten and she would be eight. It is much more likely an typo and should be 1778, even then, I couldn't find any marriage for them in St Cyrus and if they had been married in 1778, the children's dates are off.

Helen Grant
Born 21 Jul 1760 St Cyrus, Kincardine, Scotland
Note: I did not find her on IGI in Kincardine, nor is this date possible if their first child was born in 1772 - she would only be 12. Her birthdate must be earlier.

Perhaps someone has the correct information and sources. If so, please let me know. I will post new sources and/or info when it comes.
James Grieve

Note: I did not find him on the IGI for this time period nor anywhere in IGI for Kincardine. My conclusion is that it is the wrong place.

*William Grieve
Born 9 Sep 1801 Milton, Kincardine, Scotland
Christening 12 Sep 1801 St Cyrus, Kincardine, Scotland
Note: I didn't find William in any of the St Cyrus Kincardine records.
Married Anne Brown 14 Jan 1826 St Cyrus, Kincardine, Scotland
Note:  they are also listed on IGI as being married in Lunan, Angus, Scotland on the same day.  This may be part of law when everyone was required to be married in Church of England if you wanted the union to be legal and then you could marry wherever you wanted - just a guess.
